How to get a discount on a shipping container shipping container deal
HONG KONG — Amazon is looking to lure customers back into its warehouse by offering them an online coupon for a shipping box or truck that costs only a few dollars.
The deal, which has already drawn interest from retailers, could help the e-commerce giant maintain its presence in Asia as it faces the global slowdown and the possibility of the U.S. Congress scrapping a controversial $50 billion trade deal with Asia.
Amazon’s deal is similar to those offered by shipping companies such as UPS, FedEx and DHL, which offer discounts on shipping boxes and trucks that can run anywhere from $5,000 to $250,000.
The e-tailer is selling the same product for as little as $1, and Amazon is offering up to 10% discounts, Amazon spokeswoman Melissa Cate told The Associated Press on Wednesday.
A shipping box costs less than $1.49, and a truck costs between $1 million and $8 million, according to the shipping company.
Amazon said it will pay the shipping companies for their shipping boxes through its AmazonFresh program, which it started in 2018.
The program has become one of Amazon’s biggest business drivers.
It’s worth $30 billion a year to the company.
“We are continuing to expand and innovate to deliver the best-in-class service to our customers,” Amazon spokeswoman Kristin McQuaig said in an email.
